Significance of Wealth with Tom Ruggie

Inside the New Space Economy: Investing at the Frontier

Episode Summary

Launch was the hard part. It's solved. What comes next is infrastructure, and almost nobody outside the category is watching it get built. Daniel Kleinmann spotted the shift in 2018 while deploying venture capital for a single family office. Tom Ruggie talks with him about how a category gets identified before the market agrees it exists, and why Daniel thinks the real surprise of the next five years is the moon, not AI.

Episode Notes

Launch was the hard part, and it's been solved. What comes next is the infrastructure, and almost nobody outside the category is watching it get built.

Daniel Kleinmann is co-founder and general partner of Balerion Space Ventures, a Dallas-based venture firm backing companies across launch, Earth observation, propulsion, and dual-use defense. Before that he was a founding principal at Explorer 1 Fund, and earlier ran the venture strategy and direct investment program inside a single family office, where he started deploying capital at 24.

Tom Ruggie talks with Daniel about how a category gets identified before the market agrees it exists. They cover the full value chain from launch vehicles to the lunar economy, why Golden Dome moved missile defense into orbit, how the AI race triggered a nuclear renaissance, and the convergence of four macro trends that arrived on the same timeline. Daniel also explains why he thinks the real surprise over the next five years is the moon, not AI.
